Ingredient Feature: Rhodiola Rosea

I love ingredient spotlights. At Private Label Supplement, we make sure we’re only putting the highest quality of ingredients in our Supplements and having the chance to feature an important herb in our ancient medicine cabinet fills me with joy. I relish educating my Client’s so let me just get right into this quick history lesson of this wonderfully unique plant. Rhodiola Rosea is a flowering perennial in the Crassulaceae or “stonecrop” family. It also goes by common names like “golden root” and “arctic root”, though many people just call it “Rhodiola,” for short. Rhodiola Rosea has a short and scaly rootstock and sprouts greenish yellow to yellow scaly looking flowers in the summertime. It really is a beautiful looking flower and its root is incredibly curative and useful as well.

So What Does Rhodiola Rosea Do?

Rhodiola Rosea is an herb that has been known to help with multiple health concerns, which is why we include it as a single ingredient formula at 600 mg per serving at Private Label Supplement. Our Clients love Rhodiola Rosea because it’s a simple formula with a BIG punch. Here’s how it can help your Customers.

It’s an Adaptogen

Adaptogens are all the rage right now. I’m sure you’ve read many articles out there about how these non-toxic plants are shaking up the Private Label Supplement industry. Let’s really dive down and take a closer look at just how beneficial these supplements are and what you need to consider before taking them. The magic of adaptogens, like Rhodiola Rosea, is that they don’t just do one thing. They can sense when your body needs balance. I like to think of them as the “smart devices” in the plant supplement world. They go in, see what your body needs and help the body resist or adapt to different stressors, whether it’s physical, environmental, or chemical. Like Ginseng, Rhodiola Rosea has been said to improve symptoms of anxiety, fatigue, chronic stress, and burnout, and who wouldn’t want that in our overly demanding society?

It Has Been Shown to Help When You Are Feeling Down

Rhodiola Rosea has also been shown to balance neurotransmitters, encouraging emotional stability, restful sleep, and an overall balanced mood. In larger doses, it has also shown to improve self-esteem. It is no wonder that Rhodiola Rosea has been compared to the antidepressant sertraline (which you may know as Zoloft). I like to remind my Clients that even though it isn’t as strong as sertraline, people taking Rhodiola Rosea have said that they suffer fewer side effects and generally tolerate it better. It can be a wonderful addition to your Private Label Supplement product line, but it’s important that you make your Customers aware that it should not be a substitute for deeper healing.

You may wish to remind Customers that they can reach out to others to help bring them to a better emotional place. Anyone can call the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline (1-800-273-8255) at any time; no one has to be alone. My mantra is: deep breaths and be good to one another.

It Has Been Shown to Improve Your Brain Function

When Rhodiola Rosea was given to physicians, military cadets, and students in a series of studies, it was found to improve mental capacity and performance while reducing mental fatigue. As a bonus, it even improved sleep patterns and increased participants’ motivation to do work-related “mental” tasks. Mental tasks can be incredibly draining, especially for prolonged periods of time. If your Customers are anything like me, sometimes I’ll forget to even get up from working from my computer until I’m finished with my work. I wonder all the time “well, where did the time go? How did it get to be so late?” and I’m nowhere near finished with what I need done. Extra boosts of brain juice, as I like to call it, can definitely help anyone get right through what needs to be done. Or maybe it’s not about trying to get that task done. Maybe you just want your thoughts to quiet down so you could get that much-needed rest you’ve been desperately needing. It’s important to tailor your messaging specifically to your exact Customer needs so informing them about the list of amazing benefits of Rhodiola Rosea is a great start.

It Can Help You When You Exercise

I can’t name one person I know who innately feels pumped to go to the gym. I can say that when it comes to myself, I need to do a lot of self-motivating before I pick up those dumbbells or get on the ground to do some crunches. But did you know that Rhodiola Rosea may be able to help with that? While Rhodiola Rosea doesn’t appear to affect your muscle strength, it did improve performance in a few studies. People who took Rhodiola Rosea before a cycling test was able to cycle 24-seconds longer on average. You must be saying, “24-seconds longer? Big whoop.” Your Customers may think a length of time like this is negligible, but when it comes to your health, every second in the gym, on the trail or even at home is crucial. Some people have suggested that what Rhodiola Rosea does is make the body feel like it’s exerting itself less. It’s important to note that while the effects of Rhodiola may be different for everyone and how it makes them feel, but there is no downside to inspiring your Customers to work out longer and living a healthier life.

Other Possibilities

Another aspect about Rhodiola Rosea that I like to tell my Clients about is that it has also been shown to protect neurons against toxins, reduce stress-related binge eating, and potentially even increase one’s life span. I personally love indulging myself in research while I’m having a big cup of coffee in the morning so it will be exciting to find out what new studies out there confirm or discover even more of the potential benefits of Rhodiola Rosea.
