As the supplement industry grows and consumers are continually educating themselves about the newest findings, certain trends emerge. Earlier this year, ConsumerLab.com published their research about consumers’ engagement and which supplements had experienced the most growth over the previous year.

The survey revealed that most respondents who took supplements were 45 or older and more than half were women. It is therefore no wonder that supplements usually taken by women are also increasingly trending. Below we have rounded up 5 supplements to offer to your female audience which, according to industry reports, have seen a significant rise over the past year.

5 Women’s Health supplements to offer this winter
Currently the most popular women’s health supplements are related to skin, nail and bone health, as well as menopausal and postmenopausal symptoms. This is further reinforced by the onset of winter, boosting supplements for mental and emotional health which, in the survey, were also more popular with women.

This supplement contains a significant amount of important vitamins and minerals which boost the health of our hair, skin and nails. Among these, Vitamins B (all of them) and D have grown in popularity and are among the top 5 most popular supplements or supplement ingredients this year.

Vitamins B12, B6 and Folic acid are important for the formation of red blood cells in our bodies and also for our memory. Vitamin D, on the other hand, is vital for women going through menopause which puts them at a greater risk of developing osteoporosis. Vitamin D is also useful in warding off the winter blues to which women seem more prone than men.

True to its name, this supplement is targeted and tailored specifically towards women. It, too, has Vitamins B and D, alongside magnesium which is also very important for menopausal symptoms and conditions that may arise.

But it does not stop there. Ultra Women ™ Time Release is a very complex supplement that includes a number of highly concentrated blends that nourish skin, hair, nails, bones, boost energy, provide essential antioxidants and herbs which support the whole immune system. As such, this supplement is great for addressing physical as well as mental and emotional needs.

An ideal supplement if you’d like to offer your customers specific Vitamin D and Omega-3 supplementation. When it comes to Vitamin D, opinions have differed over the years as to the recommended daily intake.

As was pointed out by Dr. Oz in 2009, the daily amount should consist of 1000 IU per day. Furthermore, again according to Dr. Oz, daily supplementation of Omega-3 Fatty Acids should be no less than 600 mg. With 1000 mg of Omega-3 Fatty Acids and 1000 IU of Vitamin D, this supplement is ideal in providing adequate amounts of these highly valuable substances.

Another hot supplement which contains Omega-3 as well as Omega-6 Fatty Acids. Over the years, there have been numerous studies about the effect of Fatty Acids on both mental and physical health. One such study, Dietary omega-3 fatty acids for women, concludes the following:

“Omega-3 fatty acids can help to prevent the development of certain cancers, particularly those of the breast and colon, and possibly of the uterus and the skin, and are likely to reduce the risk of postpartum depression […] Omega-3 fatty acids could play a positive role in the prevention of menstrual syndrome and postmenopausal hot flushes.”

This makes Krill oil and other supplements which include Fatty Acids an important addition to women’s daily supplementation.

Alpha Lipoic Acid was recently shown to reduce metabolic syndrome in postmenopausal women. This is important as previous research has also demonstrated that postmenopausal women with metabolic syndrome are more prone to developing breast cancer.

Furthermore, Alpha Lipoic Acid has also been demonstrated to help insulin-resistant people develop a higher sensitivity towards insulin by lowering levels of triglycerides. In doing so, it has also been shown to have a positive effect on weight management.

Reaching out to your female audience

Another important takeaway from ConsumerLab’s survey is that consumers who buy their supplements online constitute the largest group within the survey. Having increased from the year before, 45.4% of respondents reported buying their supplements online. Additionally, the amount of supplements taken was also shown to influence where they were bought. People taking a number of supplements were found to buy more of them online than those taking fewer.

So with more women than men taking supplements and the total amount of people buying supplements online increasing, this provides a great marketing opportunity. All that is needed is to offer the right supplements to the right audience at the right moment. The above 5 supplements are a chance for you to do so and, as the saying goes, hit the nail right on the head.
