Staying Current: The 2019 Vitamins and Minerals Market Update

One of the things that are so exciting about the supplement and nutraceuticals industry is watching it blossom. A lot of people don’t remember this, but just a few years ago taking nutritional supplements wasn’t an everyday lifestyle practice for most people like it is today. According to one study looking at the results from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey, back in 2012, barely over half of US adults reported using any dietary supplements from 2011 to 2012.

Fast forward to 2019 and a staggering 98 percent of vitamin and supplement users took supplements during the last year. Another study conducted on behalf of the American Osteopathic Association in 2018 found that 86 percent of US adults are a vitamin or supplement users – that’s four out of every five adults! During the last year, US retail sales of vitamins alone reached $10.5 billion, with mineral sales at $2.5 billion.

From products like our popular Private Label Dietary Supplements and Private Label Vitamin Supplements, which are helping Consumers get the nutrients they may not be getting from their diets, to supplements that are trending right now, like Private Label Hemp Seed Oil, Private Label Turmeric Supplements, and even supplements for our furry best friends, the nutraceutical industry continues to support Consumers’ (and their dogs!) quest for better health. That is why we are always available to support our Clients with information, guidance, and product support.

After all, we’re on this mission together, empowering people to take control of their health. So, let’s take a look at what’s going on with the vitamin and mineral market in 2019.

Multivitamins Continue to Dominate the Vitamin and Mineral Market

The Council for Responsible Nutrition (CRN), found that 75 percent of supplement users chose to take a multivitamin. Another study conducted by the Natural Marketing Institute identified Millennials as a key demographic for growth in the market. Between 2009 and 2017, multivitamin use by Millennials increased by 40 percent.

Millennials are also taking more single vitamin and mineral supplements, with increases of 122 percent and 162 percent respectively over the same period.

The Clean Label Trend

There are also a few interesting trends to keep an eye on this year. No surprises here, but Consumers are more interested in clean label formulations when shopping for vitamins and minerals. People today are eating organic, drinking purified water, and they’re choosy about which vitamins and other supplements they’re putting into their bodies. They are increasingly interested in naturally occurring nutrients, plant-based tablets, and supplements without any GMO ingredients.

We offer our Clients over 900 formulas, including 1,200 marketing variations, giving you plenty of choices so you can offer your Customers the type of supplements they want. Browse our Online Product Catalogue where you’ll find lots of naturally occurring antioxidants, botanicals, and other ingredients that many of today’s Consumers look for.

Watch Out for Pill Fatigue in 2019

Another interesting 2019 nutraceutical market trend is what is known as “pill fatigue.” Consumers are getting tired of popping pills with gummies, chewables, and liquid vitamins being more appealing. When looking at Private Label Liquid Vitamins and other non-pill formats, keep in mind, flavor counts. Even adults prefer tasty fruit-flavored gummies to products that are bland, bitter, or that come with a pungent taste like fish oil or garlic.
