7 Reasons Why Your Own Website Is the Best Form of Distribution

You’ve refined your formula. You’ve researched your brand and audience. You’ve hired a great team to help you maximize your marketing potential. Just one more step to consider: How will your million-dollar supplement reach the masses?

You might briefly consider going old-school by setting up shop at a mall kiosk, but you understand the power of the internet in today’s economy. Should you set up a store on Etsy? Look into becoming an Amazon vendor? Could your Facebook be used as a retail site? No to all three: you should set up your own business website.

Your company needs its own website. This is a non-negotiable requirement in today’s world. A minimal (or worse, non-existent) online presence is a major red flag for many people. Modern Consumers want to connect with their favorite brands. They want to investigate a company’s record, its practices, its reputation. Consumers in 2018 are inquisitive and insistent: the only way appeal to this attitude is to expect it and, indeed, embrace it.

Here are seven reasons for using your own website to distribute your product line.

1. You will make more profit. Retailers might seem convenient, but their fees and percentages take a huge chunk out of your profits. Using your own website is a great alternative to working with a major online retailer.

2. You have more control over testing. You can see what works and what fails in real time: you don’t have to wait for a retailer to get back to you with the data you need.

3. You can establish yourself as a brand. You can start with a website and a social media profile, slowly expand to a few more social media platforms, then finally develop online advertisements. If you use a retailer, you will be lost in a sea of other small companies competing for sales. With your own website, even if you also use a major outlet like Amazon, your brand will be seen as its own entity.

4. You can build brand identity through search engine optimization (SEO). Facebook does not use SEO, but websites do. SEO increases search results rankings. Seeing as how a vast majority of internet users do look beyond the first two pages of search engine results, securing an early search result ranking is vital.

5. You will gain time to build credibility on the internet before you actually begin selling your product line. Not only will you be able to hype your brand and spread the word, you will look more professional if you have been around for a while. Get people talking about (or posting about) your products: word of mouth is still excellent publicity.

6. You can learn as you grow. You’ll gain knowledge of marketing, sales, and other aspects of business with which you might not have been familiar. You can slowly build your product line. Begin by offering one or two products, then gradually expand to include more.  This will allow you to receive and process feedback on both your product development and your marketing strategy.

7. You can change your strategy if you need. You want a different tone for ads? If you run your own site, all you have to do is contact your web design team and they’ll do it. If you rely on a retailer, you could be looking at days, weeks, even months of red tape before you see the desired redesign.
